The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned what it describes because the unconstitutional interference within the governance of Rivers State, insisting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu lacks the authorized authority to take away a sitting governor.
In a press release signed by its Interim Nationwide Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the celebration backed current remarks by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who asserted that the president has no energy below the Nigerian Structure to take away even an elected councilor—not to mention a state governor.
The ADC described the clarification from the Presidency as “a mere try at political correctness,” calling as an alternative for the Vice President to face agency on his “forthright and brave” stance, which it stated was anchored in constitutional reality and democratic precedent.
“This straightforward reality should not be misplaced within the fog of political correctness,” the ADC stated.
“What made the removing of a governor unconstitutional below President Jonathan in Borno is similar that makes it unconstitutional below President Tinubu in Rivers. The one distinction is that one revered the Structure, the opposite seeks to govern it.”
The celebration referenced Shettima’s private account of how former President Goodluck Jonathan kept away from eradicating him as Borno State Governor regardless of strain, following authorized recommendation from then Speaker of the Home of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, and former Legal professional Common Mohammed Bello Adoke.
“In contrast to Jonathan, who revered the legislation, President Tinubu has chosen to tread the trail of unconstitutionality. The suspension of a duly elected governor isn’t just unlawful, it’s authoritarian and harmful,” the assertion learn.
The ADC criticized what it termed “government overreach” in Rivers State, warning that continued interference by the federal authorities undermines democracy and threatens the muse of Nigeria’s federalism.
“For avoidance of doubt, the Boko Haram insurgency that led to a state of emergency in Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa was much more extreme than the present scenario in Rivers. But Jonathan revered constitutional boundaries. Why can’t Tinubu?” the celebration queried.
The celebration known as on President Tinubu to revive democratic governance in Rivers State instantly, halt all unconstitutional actions, and challenge an apology to Nigerians for what it described as a blatant abuse of energy.
“The ADC will proceed to face with the Nigerian individuals in defence of democracy, justice and constitutionalism,” Abdullahi concluded.
