Rome — All flight operations at Milan Bergamo Airport had been suspended for nearly two hours on Tuesday after a person was sucked into the engine of a departing airplane and killed, in line with the nation’s nationwide information company ANSA.
Police and firefighters responded to the scene on the airport, which is about 37 miles east of Milan, and an investigation was underway to find out precisely what occurred, in line with ANSA.
The airport confirmed the suspension of visitors “because of an issue that occurred on the taxiway,” in a post on its official social media channels, including “the causes of the issue are at the moment being investigated by the authorities.” It stated the closure lasted from 10:20 a.m. to midday native time.

Through the suspension, at the least eight departing flights had been canceled, whereas arriving flights had been diverted to different airports within the area, together with these in Bologna, Verona and Milan Malpensa.
The plane concerned was an Airbus A319 operated by low-cost airline Volotea, for a flight from Bergamo to Asturias, in northern Spain. The incident reportedly occurred shortly after the plane accomplished boarding and was taxiing away from the terminal.
Based on ANSA, the sufferer is believed to have entered the runway with the intent of taking his personal life. The person, who was neither a passenger nor an airport worker, eluded safety employees and ran towards the plane when it was already in movement.
Authorities haven’t launched the individual’s id.
