    Looming strike: FG assures on payment of 7 months arrears of doctors, health workers

    Abuja-As a part of measures to avert an impending strike within the well being sector, the federal authorities has assured medical docs and different healthcare staff that their seven months wage arrears can be paid earlier than the tip of August 2025.

    Nevertheless, Lagos State department of Nigerian Medical Affiliation, NMA, yesterday warned that docs within the state’s make use of may embark on an indefinite strike over what it described as “depraved, insensitive, and unlawful” deductions from their July 2025 salaries by the State Treasury Workplace, STO.

    The Minister of Well being and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, made the pledge throughout a joint assembly with leaders of main well being unions in Abuja weekend.

    The event comes after the Nigerian Medical Affiliation, NMA, not too long ago issued a 21-day ultimatum to the federal government to handle excellent welfare considerations or face a nationwide strike.

    Equally, the Nationwide Affiliation of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, NANNM, had earlier launched into a warning strike, which was suspended following stakeholders’ interventions.

    To forestall additional disruption within the sector, the ministry of well being convened a roundtable assembly with the NMA, NANNM, and the Joint Well being Sector Union, JOHESU, alongside the minister of humanitarian affairs, to barter and resolve pending points.

    Talking after the assembly, Prof. Pate reaffirmed the federal government’s resolve to pay the seven-month backlog and reiterated President Bola Tinubu’s dedication to discovering lasting options to challenges within the nation’s healthcare supply system.

    In separate interviews, NMA President, Prof. Bala Audu, and JOHESU Nationwide President, Comrade Kabiru Minjibir, expressed optimism that the agreements reached may stop the looming strike if absolutely carried out.

    The stakeholders hoped the federal authorities will honour its commitments to make sure sustained industrial concord and uninterrupted healthcare companies nationwide.
