    JAMB inaugurates underage candidates’ admission scrutiny committee

    The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has inaugurated a devoted committee to scrutinise admissions for underage candidates in a bid to deal with rising issues over such candidates into tertiary establishments.

    Ishaq Oloyede, the registrar/ chief government officer at JAMB made this recognized on Wednesday, August 6, through the inauguration within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, when he emphasised the board’s dedication to upholding age necessities and making certain compliance with admission tips throughout Nigerian universities and different greater establishments.

    Oloyede disclosed that the committee would resolve the modalities for figuring out `specifically gifted candidates’.

    “These are the 599 underage candidates who scored 320 and above within the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

    “The committee will resolve on the dates, what to do and arrange who to choose on the finish. They’ll choose candidates which might be exceptionally good to be admitted into tertiary faculties to be able to encourage them,’’ he mentioned.

    The previous College of Ilorin vice-chancellor exphasised that the committee assembly had the digital presence of vice-chancellors of Nigerian universities, regulatory companies, some essential stakeholders and specialists in training.

    Moreover, he mentioned that the committee had resolved that between August and September those that would scale the hurdle from the 599 candidates could be introduced.

    “Their faculty certificates might be weighed, which suggests they will need to have scored 80 %, and for the post-UTME, the establishment will submit the scores of the candidates, newest by September 16.

    “Any candidate who scores under 80 within the post-UTME is already out of it. We all know that 16 years is the minimal for admissions however we must always be capable to choose one or two which might be very good to encourage them,” he mentioned.
