The Unbiased Nationwide Electoral Fee has urged the general public and media to ignore a purported timetable for the 2027 Basic Election circulating on-line.
INEC Chairman’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Adedayo Oketola, in a press release in Abuja, described the circulating timetable and schedule of actions as faux.
Oketola stated the fee was but to launch any timetable, stressing that the doc circulating in some quarters didn’t emanate from INEC.
“The fee needs to state clearly that this data is fake and deceptive.
“INEC has not launched any timetable or schedule of actions for the 2027 Basic Election,” Oketola stated.
He stated the fee operates strictly throughout the provisions of the regulation governing electoral processes in Nigeria.
Oketola cited Part 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which mandates INEC to publish a Discover of Election not later than 360 days earlier than polling day.
“Any timetable or schedule issued exterior this statutory framework can not emanate from INEC,” he stated.
He assured Nigerians that the official timetable for the 2027 Basic Election could be launched sooner or later.
Oketola stated the timetable would absolutely adjust to the Structure of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, and the Electoral Act, 2022.
He added that, when launched, the timetable could be communicated by way of INEC’s established and verified channels.
