    Germany pledges ₦82bn to boost ECOWAS peace, security efforts

    Germany has reaffirmed its partnership with the Financial Group of West African States (ECOWAS) with a contemporary dedication of €49 million, roughly ₦82 billion to bolster peace, safety, financial progress, and healthcare initiatives throughout West Africa.

    The brand new funding pledge was introduced following profitable bilateral negotiations on Growth Cooperation held on the ECOWAS Fee Headquarters in Abuja.

    Based on an announcement issued on Thursday by the ECOWAS Directorate of Communication, the settlement underscores each events’ shared dedication to deepening cooperation in peacebuilding, good governance, institutional strengthening, and sustainable regional growth.

    Receiving the German delegation led by Christoph Rauh, Director for Africa on the German Federal Ministry for Financial Cooperation and Growth (BMZ), Omar Touray, President of the ECOWAS Fee, counseled Germany’s continued assist for regional stability and growth.

    Rauh, who spoke through the negotiation assembly, emphasised that peace and safety would stay central pillars of ECOWAS–German cooperation.

    Nonetheless, he famous that the brand new section of partnership would place stronger give attention to stimulating financial and personal sector growth to drive long-term prosperity throughout the area.

    “We need to construct on the present belief between Germany and ECOWAS to advertise sustainable financial progress and empower native establishments,” Rauh stated, highlighting that the renewed cooperation goals to create measurable impression in communities affected by insecurity and financial challenges.

    In her remarks, Damtien Tchintchibidja, Vice-President of the ECOWAS Fee, briefed Touray on the progress of the continuing negotiations, noting that the discussions had been geared toward aligning growth priorities with ECOWAS’ strategic imaginative and prescient for the area.

    Responding, Touray expressed deep appreciation to the Authorities and folks of Germany for his or her steadfast partnership, describing the renewed dedication as a mirrored image of Germany’s confidence in ECOWAS’ management and peacebuilding agenda.

    He reaffirmed the Fee’s dedication to fostering cooperation constructed on mutual respect, shared possession, and sustainable outcomes.

    “This partnership continues to exhibit that regional stability and prosperity are achievable by means of collaboration and shared accountability,” he stated.
