An Abuja Chief Justice of the Peace Courtroom on Friday ordered the remand of a social media influencer, Ghali Isma’il, on the Keffi Correctional Centre for publishing false claims that President Bola Tinubu had died following a critical sickness.
Mr Isma’il, who posted the claims by way of TikTok beneath the deal with @bola_asiwaju, was arrested by operatives of the Division of State Safety Providers (DSS) days after the movies went viral.
He was arraigned by the DSS on a two-count cost bordering on the publication of false information and incitement towards the federal government.
Depend One, titled “Publication of false information with intent to trigger offence towards public peace,” reads:
“That you simply, Ghali Isma’il, male, 29, of Jogana Village, Gezawa LGA, Kano State, on or about July 20, 2025, inside the jurisdiction of this Honourable Courtroom, revealed false data by importing a video in your verified TikTok deal with (@bola_asiwaju) whereby you falsely claimed to have confirmed from official sources that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was critically unwell after being poisoned by his meal, with intent to trigger public alarm and disturb the peace. You thereby dedicated an offence punishable beneath Part 418 of the Penal Code Act, Cap P3, Legal guidelines of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.”
Depend Two, “Inciting disaffection towards the federal government,” states:
“That you simply, Ghali Isma’il… on or about July 20, 2025, revealed false data in your verified TikTok deal with (@bola_asiwaju) falsely claiming dependable affirmation from official sources that President Tinubu was critically unwell after being poisoned, with intent to incite public contempt or disaffection towards the President. That is an offence punishable beneath Part 416 of the Penal Code Act, Cap P3, Legal guidelines of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.”
Following arguments from each prosecution and defence counsel, the presiding choose, Ekpeyong Inyang, denied bail and ordered the defendant’s remand. The case was adjourned to August 19.
