    ASUU warns of nationwide varsity shutdown as negotiation stalls

    The Educational Workers Union of Universities (ASUU) has warned that it’ll resume its nationwide strike if an settlement is just not reached with the Federal Authorities on the expiration of its one-month ultimatum.

    ASUU Kano Zonal Coordinator Abdulkadir Muhammad gave the warning on Monday in Kano throughout a information convention after the zone’s assembly.

    The lecturers in October suspended their warning strike with a month-long ultimatum to the Federal Authorities to fulfill their calls for, which centred round their welfare and offering a conducive educating and studying surroundings.

    Muhammad decried what he described as a sluggish method to renegotiating key agreements geared toward revitalising Nigeria’s public college system.

    The assembly had representatives from Ahmadu Bello College (ABU), Zaria; Bayero College Kano (BUK); and Kaduna State College (KASU).

    Others have been Aliko Dangote College of Science and Expertise (ADUSTECH), Wudil; Federal College Dutse (FUD); Northwest College (NWU), Kano; and Sule Lamido College (SLUK), Kafin Hausa.

    Muhammad stated this adopted the report introduced at ASUU’s Nationwide Govt Council (NEC) assembly held on Nov. 8 and 9 at Taraba State College.

    He stated NEC expressed dissatisfaction with the sluggish tempo of the continued renegotiation between the union and the federal government, describing it as a significant impediment to concluding the method meaningfully.

    He stated the suspension of the strike in October was meant to create an enabling surroundings and a gesture of goodwill towards Nigerians.

    “Nonetheless, our hope for a holistic and well timed decision of the problems is more and more being dashed.

    “It’s unlucky that some authorities functionaries make use of totally different ways to undermine the renegotiation course of and misinform the general public on the state of our engagements,” he instructed newsmen.

    He stated that the federal government had but to point out real dedication to enhancing lecturers’ welfare or addressing the circumstances that gasoline mind drain within the college system.

    “What authorities has supplied will neither enhance the working circumstances of lecturers nor entice students from different international locations to our universities,” he stated.

    In response to him, it’s unlucky that some authorities officers declare that ASUU calls for have been met.

    He urged the Federal Authorities to put a moratorium on the institution of state universities, because it did for federal universities.
