    Army says rescued 1,023 kidnap victims, recover 189 guns in northwest

    The Nigerian Military has rescued 1,023 kidnapped victims and recovered 189 AK-47 weapons and 4,338 rounds of ammunition throughout numerous operations within the Northwest in 2025.

    The Basic Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Sokoto, Maj.-Gen. Ibikunle Ajose, disclosed this on the presentation of awards as a part of the closing ceremony of West African Social Actions (WASA) on Wednesday in Sokoto.

    Ajose stated the successes have been recorded by the Sector 2 Joint Job Drive North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) within the combat towards terrorism and banditry within the area.

    “Inside the 12 months ending, troops have efficiently rescued 1,023 kidnapped victims and recovered 189 AK-47 rifles and 4,338 rounds of ammunition.

    The GOC attributed the successes to the unwavering dedication of personnel of the Division and the strategic management of the Chief of Military Workers (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu.
