    Anambra South senatorial by-election: Ex-guber aspirant Azuka Okwuosa wins APC ticket

    Former Anambra governorship aspirant, Hon. Azuka Okwuosa, has clinched the ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the August 16 senatorial by-election within the Anambra South senatorial zone.

    Okwuosa, a famend politician and former native authorities chairman, commissioner, and Secretary-Basic of the South-East Improvement Initiative, defeated Mr Obinna Uzor to safe the ticket.

    The Anambra South senatorial by-election is being held to switch the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who died a 12 months in the past in the UK.

    In a keenly contested major performed by a seven-member committee from the APC Nationwide Secretariat and chaired by Chief Henry Ikoh, Okwuosa polled a complete of 470 votes, defeating Uzor who secured 57 votes.

    Asserting the outcomes, the chairman of the first election committee, Chief Ikoh, revealed {that a} complete of 594 delegates from all seven native authorities areas of the zone participated within the election, with 22 votes declared invalid.

    Ikoh stated: “By the authority given to me by the appearing nationwide vice chairman of APC, I verify that election was held earlier than INEC, safety agent, media and delegates. The train was peaceable and I hereby declare that Azuka Okwuosa received the election and hereby returned.”

    Chatting with journalists, Okwuosa stated he was elated to have been elected because the social gathering’s candidate, although he famous his acceptance was tinged with blended feelings because of the passing of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.

    “He was a fantastic senator and inside the interval he was within the Senate, he did so much and I see it as a problem for me to take over from the place he stopped,” he stated.

    Azuka Okwuosa was born in Jos, Plateau State, on November 3, 1959, to a religious Christian household from Anambra State.

    He has beforehand contested the governorship on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA. He had a short stint within the Peoples Democratic Celebration, PDP, between 1999 and 2003, earlier than lastly becoming a member of the APC, citing the social gathering’s openness to his pursuit of the better good for Anambra State.

    He’s a former chairman of the Nnewi North Native Authorities Council, a former Commissioner for Works and Transport in Anambra State, and served as Secretary-Basic of the South-East Improvement Initiative from 2002 to 2010.
