ABUJA- THE Senate has denied tales of crack in its rank, particularly inside the management, saying that the reported clah between the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio and the Chief of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, APC, Ekiti Central clashed throughout an govt session lately convened to deliberate whether or not the Senate ought to proceed on annual recess is just not true.

In a press release personally signed by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, APC, Ekiti South learn, “Our consideration has been drawn to various media stories claiming that President of the Senate, His Excellency Godswill Akpabio, GCON and Chief of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, CON clashed throughout an govt session lately convened to deliberate whether or not the Senate ought to proceed on annual recess.

“The stories don’t comprise any iota of fact. In entirety, they misconstrue time-tested practices and traditions within the parliament worldwide, the place members, no matter their political leanings, leverage the devices of parliamentary debates, questions or interpellations to debate each initiative decisively and eclectically earlier than approval or authorisation.

“The Senate, as our nation’s highest law-making establishment, is just not completely different in any method. Like different parliaments, each invoice, movement and proposal is all the time subjected to intense scrutiny in our Chamber nearly each day. This entails sturdy debates to which members talk about and dissect each initiative earlier than the Senate purely within the curiosity of over 230 million Nigerians.

“Whether or not within the chamber or committee room, debates on coverage points shouldn’t be misconstrued as altercations amongst members, neither do they counsel any crack within the rank of the management.”
