Tremendous Eagles ahead Ademola Lookman has criticised the Confederation of African Soccer, CAF, for its resolution to alter the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, to a quadrennial occasion.
Lookman mentioned the change is unlucky for Africans, limiting their alternatives to benefit from the AFCON match.
The Atalanta participant shared his ideas with reporters following Nigeria’s 3–1 victory over Uganda within the 2025 AFCON tie on Tuesday.
“The choice has been made and you’ll’t actually change it,” Lookman, who has received the African Footballer of the 12 months award prior to now, mentioned.
“It’s a disgrace for Africans by way of having the ability to get the match two years that we’ve been used to; it’s a disappointment,” he added.
Patrice Motsepe, the president of CAF, not too long ago introduced that, beginning in 2028, the AFCON can be held each 4 years.
This modification follows the 2027 version in East Africa, marking a shift from the match’s long-standing biennial format, which has been in place since 1968.
