The Abia State authorities has accused former Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu of allegedly creating political rigidity within the state via his utterances at his personal residence in Umuobiakwa, Obingwa LGA.

The state authorities in an announcement on Tuesday, mentioned the gathering featured his former aides, political associates, and a cross-section of locals.

The assertion which was signed by Commissioner for Info, Okey Kanu mentioned the assembly convened by Ikpeazu was ill-timed and violated constitutional provisions and the Unbiased Nationwide Electoral Fee (INEC) pointers regulating political campaigns in Nigeria.

The Commissioner famous that although Ikpeazu didn’t formally declare his political ambition, his direct instruction to his viewers to “ship their cubicles and models” throughout upcoming elections unmistakably indicators the beginning of a political marketing campaign, an act Kanu mentioned, constitutes a breach of INEC’s established guidelines.

Abia authorities whereas urging the previous Governor to train his rights of speech and affiliation strictly below the regulation, mentioned his current conducts have been unbecoming of a former Governor and have been able to incitements that might destabilize the peace within the State.

“It’s, due to this fact, preposterous that Dr Ikpeazu selected to take advantage of this unlawful platform not solely to mobilize politically but in addition to launch a vicious tirade of misinformation and assaults in opposition to the present administration. Such reckless commentary not solely disrespects the workplace he as soon as held but in addition has the harmful potential of inciting unrest and destabilizing the peace Abians at present get pleasure from.

“We wish to challenge a last warning that the ban on campaigns has not been lifted and anyone campaigning now’s breaking the regulation and attempting to warmth up the polity. The federal government is not going to sit idly by and permit that to occur”
