The All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated it can’t forestall politicians from defecting to the ruling get together, describing the current wave of defections as a mirrored image of confidence within the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

The get together’s Nationwide Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, acknowledged this on Tuesday throughout an interview on Come up Tv, the place he responded to considerations over the rising variety of governors becoming a member of the APC, together with the current defection of the Kano State governor.

Morka stated governors defecting to the ruling get together have been aligning themselves with what he described as a ‘resurging Nigeria’ below the Tinubu administration.

“What you see is governors who’ve determined to affix our get together to establish with this resurging Nigeria that this President is clearly positioning Nigeria to be,” he stated.

He added that the APC welcomed new members and wouldn’t act as a barrier to politicians in search of to affix the get together.

“We’re comfortable, we’re enthusiastic about individuals who be part of our get together. We can’t be gatekeepers to filter out individuals who wish to be part of our camp. We don’t try this as a result of it’s undemocratic,” Morka stated.

Addressing fears that the defections may result in a one-party state, the APC spokesperson dismissed such considerations, arguing that Nigeria had skilled related political dominance previously with out undermining democracy.

“The Peoples Democratic Get together sooner or later in our historical past ruled Nigeria with about the identical variety of governors,” he stated.

“I used to be very lively within the political world at the moment and there was no spectre anyplace a few one-party state as a result of the PDP had these numbers of governors. That’s not the case now, and I feel we should always not equate folks becoming a member of our get together with that mode,” Morka added.
