    4trn debt: Angry contractors besiege Finance Ministry, demand N760bn payment

    Offended contractors beneath the aegis of the All Indigenous Contractors Affiliation of Nigeria (AICAN) have demanded a fee of N760 billion out of the full of N4 trillion they’re being owed by the Federal Authorities of Nigeria.

    The contractors urged the Minister of Finance, Mr Wale Edun, to fulfil his promise to launch N760 billion as the primary tranche of fee.

    AICAN President, Mr Jackson Nwosu, who spoke by means of the affiliation’s Secretary-Common, Mr Babatunde Oyeniyi, stated the minister gave the peace of mind throughout a number of conferences held after the affiliation suspended its November 6 protest following the intervention of the Senate spokesperson, Sen. Adeyemi Adaramodu.

    When Vanguard visited the ministry on Wednesday, the protest was already in its second day, with the doorway barricaded and sleeping mats and cooking gadgets scattered round as contractors who camped in a single day vowed they wouldn’t depart till their cash was launched.

    “After our protest on November 6, which we suspended due to the Senate’s intervention, we’ve been in dialogue with the minister of finance on how he’s going to pay us.

    “However sadly, he has did not honour his promise. He retains saying he can pay, however nothing is forthcoming. That’s the reason we’re right here protesting once more,” he stated.

    He added that the ministry gave the impression to be contemplating combining their fee with different excellent funds and suspending disbursement to 2026, which the affiliation doesn’t assist.

    “Our subsequent line of motion is what we’re doing now. We won’t depart these premises. We are going to proceed day by day till we’re paid,” Nwosu added.

    Additionally, AICAN Vice President, Mr Fredrick Agada, stated he was involved that the minister had not honoured the commitments made in earlier conferences.

    “He requested us to compile a listing of our members entitled to the fee, which we submitted in laborious copy.

    “Sadly, he later requested us to interface with stakeholders. We requested who these stakeholders are, however he has refused to reply us,” Agada stated.

    A member of the affiliation’s Media and Publicity Committee, Mr Harmless Asuelimen, stated contractors invested closely within the initiatives for which the federal government had already taken credit score, but fee remained excellent.

    “All we wish is for our cash to be launched. The primary section of the venture was funded 100 per cent, and the federal government has showcased it to Nigerians.

    “We’ve got misplaced members and veterans. Curiosity is operating day by day. Authorities ought to pay our cash,” he stated.

    Deputy Nationwide President (North Central), Alhaji Abdullahi Yamani, additionally known as for speedy fee, saying the delays have been worsening the contractors’ plight.

    The minister was but to resolve the contractors’ concern as of press time.
