ABUJA — Brigadier Basic Samaila Mohammed Uba has assumed responsibility as the brand new Director of Defence Info following the latest reorganisation within the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
He took over from Brigadier Basic Tukur Gusau at a quick handover ceremony held on the Defence Headquarters on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.
In his remarks, Brig Gen Uba pledged to anchor his management on 4 strategic priorities: unity of goal, timeliness and transparency, digital innovation, and enhanced media collaboration. He counseled his predecessor for his “modest achievements” and wished him success in his future endeavours.
Born on July 1, 1968, in Tudun Wada, Nasarawa Native Authorities Space of Kano State, Uba started his navy profession on the Nigerian Defence Academy as a member of Quick Service Combatant Course 30. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on March 13, 1993, and initially posted to the Directorate of Military Public Relations earlier than being redeployed to the Infantry Corps.
A seasoned officer and scholar, Brig Gen Uba holds a Bachelor’s diploma in Mass Communication from Bayero College, Kano (1990), a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration from the Ghana Institute of Administration and Public Administration (2009), and a Grasp’s diploma in Strategic and Improvement Research from the Bangladesh College of Professionals (2019).
He has attended key navy programs, together with the Senior Employees Course on the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Employees School and the Nationwide Defence Course in Bangladesh.

He later served as Deputy Director Peacekeeping Operations and Director Personnel Companies at Military Headquarters. Till his newest appointment, he was the Director of Joint Research on the Armed Forces Command and Employees School, Jaji.
Brig Gen Uba has obtained quite a few awards and medals, together with the Grand Service Star, Distinguished Service Star, Area Command Medal, Handed Employees Course (Dagger), and the Chief of Military Employees Commendation Award.
He’s a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, a member of the Nigerian Institute of Administration, the Nigerian Military Useful resource Centre, and an affiliate of the Nigerian Society of Worldwide Affairs.
He’s married with youngsters and enjoys taking part in squash and studying in his leisure time.
