The Nafiu Bala-led faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected the emergence of former Senate President David Mark as head of the celebration’s new Nationwide Working Committee (NWC), insisting he isn’t a bona fide member.

In a press release on Friday, Aminu Alhassan, particular assistant on public affairs to Bala, described the Mark-led NWC as a “clear violation” of the ADC’s structure.

In July, opposition politicians and a few ADC leaders adopted the celebration because the coalition platform for the 2027 elections. Figures within the coalition embrace former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar; Uche Secondus, ex-PDP nationwide chairman; Nasir el-Rufai, former Kaduna governor; Peter Obi, 2023 LP presidential candidate; Rauf Aregbesola, ex-interior minister; Rotimi Amaechi, ex-transport minister; and Bolaji Abdullahi, former senatorial candidate.

On July 2, Ralph Nwosu, ADC founder and then-national chairman, introduced the resignation of the NWC and endorsed Mark as interim chief. Coalition members have since written to the Impartial Nationwide Electoral Fee (INEC) to recognise the Mark-led committee.

Alhassan burdened that solely confirmed celebration members can maintain management positions, noting that the ADC’s structure is obvious that anybody in search of such a job should first be a bona fide member and that this requirement can’t be missed or circumvented.

He accused Mark’s staff of exhibiting “blatant disregard for the democratic ideas” the celebration stands for, including that their management shouldn’t be a real illustration of the ADC.
