    Anti-unity in diversity – PDP faults street renaming in Lagos

    The Peoples Democratic Occasion, PDP, Lagos State chapter, has taken a swipe on the current renaming of some streets in some native governments areas of the state.
    DAILY POST experiences the current renaming of streets and public landmarks within the state has sparked intense public debate and protests,

    Reacting in a press release on Thursday in Lagos, the PDP Vice-Chairman (Lagos Central), Mr Hakeem Olalemi, who suggested the ruling social gathering to tread rigorously, alleged that the renaming focused a piece of society.

    “The Lagos PDP is hereby rejecting in totality the renaming of streets by some council chairmen. We should always by no means erase historical past due to politics.

    “It’s towards the spirit of unity in range and it’ll definitely have an effect on the picture of the state as a cosmopolitan state.

    “We must be seen to be selling unity and to not give the mistaken impression to non-indigenes within the state.

    “We’ve got varied ethnic nationalists in our state, who’ve contributed immensely to the event of our state, therefore the explanation why some streets have been named after them initially.

    “This present motion by some council executives must be reconsidered. Many of the streets affected have been bearing Igbo names earlier than and this leaves so many questions within the coronary heart of non indigenes,” Olalemi mentioned.

    He described the road renaming as completely unconstitutional, including that the choice and consequent reactions confirmed that some leaders didn’t seek the advice of extensively.

    Recall that human rights lawyer, Mr Femi Falana, additionally lately condemned the change of avenue names as unconstitutional.

    Equally, residents of Ilaje group in Bariga Native Council Improvement Space (LCDA within the state had staged a protest on Wednesday, rejecting the current renaming of their avenue ‘Ilaje Street’ to ‘King Sunny Ade Street.’
