The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 29-year-old man, Victor Kalu, for tried suicide on the premises of the Mountain of Hearth and Miracles Ministries (MFM) in Ibafo space of the state.
In line with Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred late Friday night time at about 10:45 p.m., when the suspect was caught making an attempt to hold himself from an electrical pole.
Police sources mentioned that the Chief Safety Officer (CSO) of the church apprehended the suspect and handed him over to the police at about 10:10 a.m. on Saturday.
Kalu, a resident of Plot 7, Oluwa Sesan Road, Ejigbo Highway, Ikotun, Lagos State, confessed throughout interrogation that he tried to finish his life as a consequence of mounting monetary stress from a mortgage he obtained from a web-based financial institution.
“He mentioned the lender had threatened him to repay the mortgage, and with no hope of getting the cash, he determined to hold himself on the electrical pole on the church premises,” the police sources mentioned.
Police detectives visited the scene, recorded statements from the complainant and the suspect, and took images for documentation.
The command mentioned the suspect is in custody and the case is underneath investigation.
