Former presidential candidate of the African Motion Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, on Monday led a protest by retired cops in Abuja, demanding higher welfare for ex-personnel of the Nigeria Police Power.
The demonstrators, beneath the aegis of the Nigerian Union of Retired Police Officers, stormed the Nationwide Meeting complicated earlier than heading to the Power Headquarters, insisting on their elimination from the contributory pension scheme.
They described the scheme as “discriminatory” and claimed that a lot of their members had died because of poor advantages.
In the meantime, the Police Neighborhood Relations Committee (PCRC) has warned towards the protest, urging the aggrieved retirees to embrace dialogue as an alternative.
Based on PCRC, the demonstration was geared toward discrediting the Inspector-Normal of Police and the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
