The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised recent considerations over what it described as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “mysterious absence” following his attendance on the 2025 BRICS summit in Brazil.
In accordance with the social gathering, President Tinubu left public view after the summit concluded in Rio de Janeiro and didn’t resurface in Nigeria till the early hours of Sunday, 5 days later with no official communication on his whereabouts.
In a press release issued on Sunday, ADC’s Nationwide Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, mentioned the presidency owes Nigerians an evidence.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should come clear about the place he has been because the BRICS summit ended,” the assertion learn.
“He vanished from public view on July seventh, the day the summit wrapped up, and solely reappeared quietly in Abuja 5 days later. No updates, no official briefings—simply silence.”
Abdullahi argued that in these lacking days, different world leaders who attended the summit had already returned house, resumed nationwide duties, and addressed their residents.
“However our President remained absent,” he mentioned. “He didn’t handle Nigerians, didn’t give updates on the outcomes of the summit, and didn’t even clarify the rationale for his delay.”
The ADC additional claimed that this isn’t an remoted case, pointing to what it says is a troubling development of the president’s unexplained journeys and absences.
“This lack of transparency has turn into a worrying sample,” Abdullahi added. “We noticed it in January 2024, when what was initially known as a ‘personal go to’ to France become a two-week disappearance—no photographs, no press statements, no updates.”
“In each case, there was no formal communication with Nigerians. No transmission of energy to the Vice President, no letters to the Nationwide Meeting—only a vacuum,” Abdullahi mentioned.
The ADC emphasised that unexplained absences at such a crucial time—when the nation is grappling with widespread insecurity and financial hardship—solely deepen public nervousness.
“A rustic in disaster can not afford a president who disappears with out discover,” the assertion warned.
“It sends the fallacious message. Management requires presence, and extra importantly, accountability.”
The social gathering accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of treating Nigerians with disdain by providing no credible explanations.
“When leaders go off the radar with out accountability, it chips away at public belief,” Abdullahi mentioned.
“The ruling social gathering’s repeated excuses insult the intelligence of Nigerians. We demand transparency—not cover-ups.”
The presidency has but to reply to the ADC’s considerations as of press time.
