    FCT teachers strike: VDM holds free class at FCTA gate for stranded pupils

    Martins Vincent Otse, Well-liked social media activist, broadly often known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), on Monday staged a symbolic protest on the gate of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) by holding impromptu lessons for youngsters affected by the continued academics’ strike in Abuja.

    The protest was VDM’s newest transfer to attract consideration to the lingering industrial motion by main faculty academics below the Nigeria Union of Academics (NUT), which has saved pupils out of school rooms for over 9 weeks.

    Since March 24, 2025, academics within the FCT have been on strike, citing the failure of Space Council Chairmen to pay the N70,000 minimal wage as agreed. The extended stalemate has disrupted studying for 1000’s of youngsters in Abuja’s public main faculties.

    VDM, who gathered a gaggle of school-aged youngsters and volunteers outdoors the FCTA gate, taught primary classes in entrance of presidency officers and passersby.

    Solely two days earlier, the activist had taken to his Fb web page to name on the Financial and Monetary Crimes Fee (EFCC) to research the scenario.

    He wrote:
    “For over 9 weeks, our public main faculty children within the Federal Capital Territory have been out of faculty.
    Based on their books they claimed they’re paying these main faculty academics 80 thousand naira and above relying on their stage.
    Sadly they lied to them as a result of until now they’re nonetheless being paid 30 thousand naira and upon this they’ve been owed salaries and for this causes the academics determined to go on strike.”

    VDM additionally appealed on to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying:
    “@officialasiwajubat this isn’t the longer term you promised Nigerians. Our youngsters will probably be restricted to a brighter future with out this primary schooling. @officialefcc please we demand a deep investigation on the board in command of their salaries in order to clear this mess and ship these harmless children again to highschool.”

    His motion has since sparked discussions on-line, with many praising him for spotlighting the rising disaster in public schooling, particularly throughout the FCT.

    To this point, there was no official remark from the FCTA or the Space Council Chairmen concerning the protest.
