A chieftain of the Labour Celebration, LP, and former Nationwide Meeting candidate, Ezeh Emmanuel Ezeh, has known as on President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to step other than the 2027 presidential race to permit youthful leaders to emerge.
Ezeh, who made the decision on Sunday whereas talking with newsmen in Abuja, emphasised the necessity for a generational shift in Nigerian politics.
The previous lawmaker urged each Tinubu and Atiku to behave as statesmen and help youthful candidates, including that their continued involvement in elections may deepen regional divisions and threaten nationwide unity.
“Each President Tinubu and Alhaji Atiku belong to the previous technology of Nigerian politics. The time has come for these two previous battle horses to name it a day in electoral contests,” Ezeh stated.
He recalled his earlier name for President Tinubu to prioritise conducting a reputable and clear 2027 basic election as an alternative of looking for re-election, noting that Tinubu’s rumoured curiosity in a second time period is already heating up the political house, notably with experiences of him recruiting incumbent governors, notably from the South.
Talking on Atiku, Ezeh expressed concern that the previous Vice President’s alleged ambition to contest underneath the African Democratic Congress, ADC, may harm the unity of the opposition.
“Atiku is busy creating the impression within the North that the coalition is all about his presidential ambition. Two years to the election, Nigeria is already divided alongside regional strains. This isn’t a very good omen for our nation,” he stated.
