Former governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Cross River State, Dr. Effiong Nyong, has warned that the occasion and the folks of the state will not enable themselves to be taken for a trip by what he described as political impostors.
Nyong said this in a letter addressed to the ADC Nationwide Chairman, reacting to a round issued by the occasion’s Nationwide Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, titled “Composition of the ADC 50 Clever Males and Girls Coverage Manifesto Committee.”
The checklist named two distinguished Cross River politicians, Senator Gershom Bassey and Ambassador Nkoyo Toyo, as members of the committee, a transfer Nyong strongly rejected.
In response to him, neither of the listed people is a member of the ADC, insisting that they continue to be lively members of the Peoples Democratic Celebration (PDP) and have by no means formally resigned their membership or recognized with the ADC at any degree.
“The names from Cross River State listed are alien to the ADC. They aren’t members of the occasion, don’t possess ADC membership playing cards, are unknown in any ward or chapter of the occasion, and have by no means contributed a kobo to the expansion or actions of the ADC in Cross River State,” Nyong stated.
He argued that presenting such people to Nigerians as representatives of the ADC quantities to projecting a faction of the PDP that has merely transfigured into the ADC, describing the scenario as a sample of impunity taken too far.
Nyong recalled that through the 2023 basic elections, the ADC, then dismissed by critics as “colourless”, collapsed its buildings to help the Obedient Motion, a technique that helped safe about 72 per cent of the presidential votes within the state.
He lamented that the identical ADC and Obedient Motion at the moment are being undermined by what he known as a fractured PDP faction that beforehand shared solely 38 per cent of votes with different events, together with the ruling APC.
Nyong disclosed that a number of blocs throughout the coalition, which joined voluntarily and contributed financially, are deeply sad with the appointment of non-members, warning that Cross River State will not tolerate being sidelined or misrepresented.
“If the ADC really seeks to rescue Cross River State and Nigeria, it should first rescue itself from the clutches of those impostors who need to hijack the platform for slender pursuits by shutting out real members,” he stated.
