Federation of Worldwide Soccer Affiliation, FIFA, has opened disciplinary proceedings towards the South African Soccer Affiliation, SAFA, for fielding an ineligible participant of their 2026 World Cup qualifier towards Lesotho.
Bafana Bafana received the match day 5 encounter towards the Crocodiles 2-0 on 21 March, 2025 in Polokwane.
South Africa fielded an ineligible participant, Teboho Mokoena within the encounter.
The Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder had gathered two yellow playing cards earlier within the qualifiers towards Benin Republic, and Zimbabwe, which triggered a one-match ban.
In keeping with SABC, FIFA confirmed that SAFA, and Mokoena faces expenses of breaching a number of disciplinary rules.
